Tracee Ellis Ross is a busy woman, even in the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Among her many ventures includes filming new episodes of her show Black-ish and balancing her haircare company Pattern Beauty. Ross recently sat down to discuss this and everything else that she’s been up to in recent months, including topics related to her love life.
Tracee Ellis Ross is ‘happily single’
Ross sat down with Shape Magazine in an interview published on Oct. 12 to discuss a number of subjects. When asked about her love life, the Girlfriends alum revealed: “I am happily single, though that doesn’t mean I am not open to and don’t want a relationship.”
“But in my wonderful and robust experience of being single, I have learned to have a productive relationship with loneliness and an intensely juicy relationship with my joyful solitude — I really enjoy my company,” she continued.
“For example, one of the things I loved to do pre-pandemic is put on something cute and go for dinner and have a beautiful meal and a glass of wine. Well, can’t do that. But you know what? I can do that at home. I make a beautiful plate. I set it out and have a glorious meal. I make my bed every morning,” she added.
Going on, Ross mentioned, “One of the things that’s been lovely to discover is how I care for myself and how I actively love myself. And I believe that love is an action: You get back what you put in.”
Beyond practicing self-love and self-care, Ross mentioned that she’d been keeping busy with projects like Black-ish, which will tackle topics such as the coronavirus crisis, voting rights, and The Black Lives Matter Movement in its seventh season.
She also has Pattern Beauty, a company she launched in 2019 to “to empower and nourish curly, coily, and tight-textured hair,” per Oprah Magazine.
When was Tracee Ellis Ross’s last relationship?
Ross was most recently linked to former One Direction star Harry Styles, after a social media user claimed in September to have seen them out together. However, their account was never confirmed.
Before that, she was linked to Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish. Love B Scott reported in January that the pair had allegedly started dating after Barris filed for divorce from his wife, Dr. Rania Barris, in August 2019. However, four months later, The Blast reported that Barris had allegedly thrown out his divorce filing, suggesting he and Rania had reconciled.
Ross also dated music executive Abou ‘Bu’ Thiam from 2011 to 2013, according to reports. Despite the split, Thiam told The Breakfast Club in 2016 that he and Ross are still friends who share a close relationship.
“Me and Tracee gon’ be lovers forever, man,” he said. “You know what I’m saying? Like, I really do believe that. Me and her have this genuine, unconditional relationship. … And anybody that comes in my life, like, they have to know that and vice versa with her.”
Ross, for her part, generally does not talk about her relationships, telling Uptown Magazine in 2012 (via The Jasmine Brand): “When you do that, you invite other people and their opinions and issues in. You can’t discover the person on your own.”
So with that, when she does begin to date someone, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath for her to go public about it.
