These Pull-On Levi’s Denim Shorts Feel Just Like Gym Shorts

Us Weekly has affiliate partnerships so we may receive compensation for some links to products and services.

So, at this point we all know about denim shorts that look like denim shorts — but aren’t really denim shorts. You know what we mean? The kind that gets you that denim look without the tight, stiff feel…or the wedgies. We said it! These types of shorts seem really appealing at first, but the reality is a lot of them come with their own slew of issues.

Shop With Us: The Ultra-Deep V of This Low-Cut Tee Will Do Wonders for Your Everyday Looks

A lot of denim-look shorts tend to wrinkle up super easily or look extremely baggy, or maybe the hems refuse to roll up. That, or the hems roll up in a funky way after being folded imperfectly and have to be ironed flat. Ugh. Just when you think you’ve found one solution, you realize you already need another. We have that new one ready for you though, and this time, you won’t need a replacement. We’re talking Levi’s, after all!

Get the Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Women’s Mid-Rise Pull-On Shorts starting at just $21 at Amazon with free shipping! Please note, prices are accurate at the date of publication, June 9, 2020, but are subject to change.

These shorts are made of a cotton blend with stretch so the fabric hugs your figure, grazing your curves just right to accentuate and flatter. They are pull-on, so they are already easier than having to deal with a zip fly and button, and there’s a skinny drawstring for a cute accent!

These Levi’s have a mid-rise fit and pre-rolled cuffs that won’t start to ruffle or unfold just because you moved ever so slightly. These may be a different version of regular jean shorts, but you’ll still find the features you didn’t want to lose, such as pockets at the sides and in back — functional ones!

Get the Signature by Levi Strauss & Co. Gold Label Women’s Mid-Rise Pull-On Shorts starting at just $21 at Amazon with free shipping! Please note, prices are accurate at the date of publication, June 9, 2020, but are subject to change.

These shorts’ incredibly soft fabric comes in two shades of blue: a lighter one called Clear Lake and a darker hue called Sea View. Both feature a little bit of fading to really give you that full-on denim effect, but the fabric and fit will remind you more of comfy gym shorts than your typical summer shorts. It’s hard to go wrong with that!

There’s nothing like finally finding your holy grail when it comes to a piece of clothing you’ll wear day after day — with basically any top in your wardrobe and any pair of shoes waiting by the door. Or, really, there’s nothing like wearing that holy grail — so place your order today!

Look Out For These ‘Hamilton’ Easter Eggs While Watching It On Disney+

Hamilton fans, it’s time to rise up — the Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer-award winning musical is finally available to stream, and theater fans everywhere are already dissecting the movie spot all of the Hamilton Easter eggs on Disney+. The "live-capture" version of the hit Broadway musical was filmed at the Richard Rogers Theater over the course of three nights back in 2016, with the original Broadway cast, including writer and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda in the titular role.

The film was originally scheduled for a theatrical premiere in October 2021, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Disney announced in May that they had decided to make it available to stream early. "I’m so proud of how beautifully [director] Tommy Kail has brought ‘Hamilton’ to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house," Miranda said in a press release at the time. In the process, the Hamilton team has managed to make the experience immersive enough for those who haven’t yet had the chance to see the show on stage, while also packing in plenty of small nods to those who have seen the show — or who just happen to be Hamilton obsessives.

From character beats impossible to pick up on the cast recording to the show’s Marvel-style ending credits, here are all of the Hamilton Easter eggs that fans are currently obsessing over.

The Pre-Show Announcement

At the start of every Broadway show, there is a courtesy announcement asking the audience to turn off their phones and to remind them not to take photos of videos of the show. At Hamilton, that announcement is done by the actor playing King George III — in this case, Jonathan Groff — who also welcomes everyone to "my show," despite being only a minor character in the show. Disney+ includes this small moment at the very start, in order to give fans at home that same experiences, and to make it feel even more like you’re sitting in the theater.

The "Rewind" In "Satisfied"

Angelica’s show-stopping number, "Satisfied," begins at the wedding of her sister, Eliza, to Alexander Hamilton, before "rewinding" back to the moment that she met the future Founding Father at a ball. The music drops out to offer a new mix, with small samples from both "Helpless" and "Satisfied," and all of the actors onstage literally rewind the scene in order to reset at the ball where the Schuyler Sisters met Hamilton, telling the story once again from Angelica’s point of view.

Hercules Mulligan

Though he has his moments of bombast in the cast recording, the character of Hercules Mulligan — as played by Okieriete Onaodowan — in the original Broadway cast is a much more memorable character onstage. The character (literally) leaps into Hamilton’s friend group, and from there, Onadowan gives the character some of the first act’s most hilarious moments, whether he’s crudely taunting Hamilton and Burr about their love lives or serving as an awkward flower girl at Hamilton and Eliza’s wedding.

King George In The "Reynolds Pamphlet"

"The Reynolds Pamphlet" takes place after Hamilton publicly reveals his affair with Maria Jefferson in a newspaper; in response, his political rivals Thomas Jefferson and James Madison celebrate that he’s "never gonna be president now" that this has been revealed. And while he can’t be heard on the cast recording, onstage, King George III also joins in that scene, delightfully celebrating that the colonies that rebelled against him appear to be in turmoil.

The Censored Curses

In order to make Hamilton appropriate for Disney+’s family-friendly audience, Miranda revealed on Twitter that he had to cut two of the three f-words that are uttered during the show. While they’re clearly audible on the cast recording, Miranda pointed out exactly where the lyrics have been changed in order to get Hamilton down to a PG-13 rating. Although, as he noted, anyone who misses the original lyrics can sync up the cast recording with the movie, in order to get the full experience.

The Hamilton Mixtape

In addition to the Broadway musical, the cast recording and a giant book all about the making of the musical phenomenon, Miranda also produced an album called The Hamilton Mixtape, which featured various artists covering and reinterpreting the musical’s iconic songs. For the movie’s credits, the team paid homage to that project by The Root’s version of "My Shot" — which features verses from Busta Rhymes and Joell Ortiz — to soundtrack the credits. At the very end of the credits, they cap things off with the flourish that the orchestra performs after the cast bows, as the audience is leaving the theater. In other words, thanks to all of those tiny moments, Hamilton is truly a complete, immersive experience, from the comfort of your home.

These Photos of Moms Breastfeeding 2 Kids at Once Prove Mothers Are Badasses

As anyone who has done it knows, breastfeeding (one baby alone!) isn’t always a stroll through the park. But breastfeeding two children at once?! Sounds overwhelming, to say the least. That said, throwing two babies into the mix is a challenge plenty of twin moms and moms of baby-toddler breastfeeding siblings take on with grace, strength, and general badassery. They’ve managed to strike a balance, and they’ve done it so beautifully that these photos of them tandem breastfeeding are absolute works of art.

Plus, breastfeeding has a ton of health benefits — for the breastfeeder and the breastfeedee. Gynecologist Dr. Alison Stuebe told SheKnows that “breastfeeding does stuff to moms’ physiology that confers health benefits… We need to make sure all women have access to resources that make it possible for them to breastfeed. We want every mom to have complete information to make an informed decision. And we also need to recognize some women are not going to find breastfeeding works for them, even with all the systems of support, and we need to be fine with that and respect each woman’s decision.”

And that goes for a woman’s decision to engage in extended breastfeeding and tandem breastfeeding with, say, her newborn and her preschooler at the same time — like the true badass on Slide 12.

A version of this story was originally published in August of 2016.

These 5 Books About Voter Suppression Will Inspire You To Be Politically Active

Redistricting. Gerrymandering. Poll tax. Voter ID laws. You might have heard of them, but do you really know what they are, and how they impact U.S. elections? These five books about voter suppression in the United States will inspire you to get involved in the fight for fair elections.

There’s a lot of talk about so-called voter fraud going on today, but the truth is that what we call voter fraud isn’t actually a thing, from a statistical perspective. However, the systematic disenfranchisement of elderly and disabled voters, and voters of color, is a very real problem, and it’s one that everyone, in every state, should be committed to eliminating. If the lack of translators and abruptly closed or relocated polling locations can affect someone else in the United States, they can affect you, too.

No matter if you carry your voter registration card with you everywhere or you’ve never voted in your life, this is a conversation in which you should be taking part. To help you get started, Bustle has put together a short list of five books about voter suppression, any one of which will empower you understand and combat one of the United States’ largest equity issues.

1. The Voting Rights War: The NAACP and the Ongoing Struggle for Justice by Gloria J. Browne-Marshall

Race, Law, and American Society author Gloria J. Browne-Marshall traces the history of African American voting rights in this slim volume. Moving from antebellum America through Plessy v. Ferguson and into the present, Browne-Marshall’s The Voting Rights War is a must-read book for anyone who wants to know how we got to now.

2. One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression Is Destroying Our Democracy by Carol Anderson

Published in the wake of Shelby County v. Holder, a Supreme Court decision that allowed U.S. counties to change voting policies without federal approval, and longlisted for the National Book Award, White Rage author Carol Anderson’s One Person, No Vote examines the impact of voter suppression on the United States.

3. Uncounted: The Crisis of Voter Suppression in America by Gilda R. Daniels

From the former deputy chief of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice comes this eye-opening account of voter suppression since 1965, when Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law. In spite of that legislation, which eliminated literacy tests and enfranchised immigrants and members of ethnic minority groups, attempts at voter suppression have not ceased, as Uncounted makes clear.

4. On Account of Race: The Supreme Court, White Supremacy, and the Ravaging of African American Voting Rights by Lawrence Goldstone

Beginning with the United States v. Cruikshank decision of 1876, which removed 14th Amendment regulation for state governments and private businesses and citizens, Lawrence Goldstone’s On Account of Race reveals the ways in which the U.S. Supreme Court has, time and again, upheld white supremacy at the expense of voters of color.

5. Voter Suppression in U.S. Elections, edited by Jim Downs

Begun as a conversation between the editor, Stacey Abrams, Carol Anderson, Kevin M. Kruse, Heather Cox Richardson, and Heather Ann Thompson, Voter Suppression in U.S. Elections is a must-read new book about the modern-day fight against disenfranchisement and how everyone can — and should — get involved.

People are getting these common gym moves wrong – and causing injuries

Gym workouts are great for strength, stability and overall fitness – but only if we’re doing the exercises correctly.

We’ve all seen those clueless people in the gym who are sitting backwards on the machine, or trying to do a leg workout on an abs machine, but more of us are getting the basics wrong than you might realise.

In fact, more than one in five people have been injured while exercising due to incorrect form, according to a new survey.

The research, conducted by FitRated, has uncovered the simple gym moves that lots of people are getting completely wrong – and it includes moves that most people think they have mastered.

The lat pulldown is the exercise performed incorrectly most— fewer than 1 in 3 people know the correct form.

The standard squat is the exercise most people are injured performing due to incorrect form, and ranks as the second-most incorrectly performed exercise.

The other moves where people weren’t sure on the correct form included a deadlift with a barbell, a body-weight lunge, a standard press-up and a bench press.

When quizzed on the correct form of each of these moves, a surprisingly large number of gym-goers were unable to identify the proper way to perform each exercise.

People can’t recognise the correct form on these moves

Deadlift with a barbell

Body-weight lunge

Standard press-up

Bench press

Traditional sit-up

Forearm plank

This is worrying because good form is so important – doing these moves incorrectly, particularly with heavy weights involved, can be a recipe for serious injury.

And you don’t even need to pick up weights to accidentally hurt yourself at the gym. 35% of people incorrectly identified how to perform a traditional sit-up (either by pulling at the neck while the body is in motion or by leaving the arms overextended), and 32% incorrectly identified how to do a forearm plank.

So, we asked the fitness experts at FitRated to provide top tips for perfect form on some of the most common gym moves – so get studying before the gyms open up again:

Lat pull-down

Keep your chest tall/bring your chest to the bar.

Keep your elbows pointed straight down.

Squeeze your lats/think of pulling from your armpits.

Lower to your chin or just below.

Grab just outside your shoulders or a little wider.

Also try using the ‘V-grip’ handle.

Barbell squat

Stand with the bar on your upper-back, and your feet shoulder-width apart.

Squat down by pushing your knees to the side while moving hips back.

Break parallel by squatting down until your hips are lower than your knees.

Squat back up while keeping your knees out and chest up.

Stand with your hips and knees locked at the top.

Traditional sit-up

Lie on your back with bent knees and your feet anchored.

Tuck your chin into your chest to lengthen the back of your neck.

Interlace your fingers at the base of your skull, cross your arms with your hands on opposite shoulders, or place your palms down alongside your body.

Exhale as you lift your upper body up toward your thighs.

Inhale as you slowly lower yourself back down to the floor.

Forearm plank

Get in the push-up position, only put your forearms on the ground instead of your hands.

Squeeze your glutes and tighten your abdominals.

Keep a neutral neck and spine.

Create a straight, strong line from head to toes – a plank, if you will.

Hold that position.

Deadlift

Walk to the bar. Stand with your mid-foot under the bar.

Grab the bar. Bend over without bending your legs.

Bend your knees. Drop into position by bending your knees until your shins touch the bar.

Lift your chest. Straighten your back by raising your chest.

Pull.

Shoulder press

Setup. Stand with the bar on your front shoulders.

Lift Your Chest. Raise your chest towards the ceiling by arching your upper-back.

Press. Take a big breath, hold it and press the bar in a vertical line.

Move forward. Stay close to the bar while you press the weight up.

Lockout.

Body weight lunge

Stand tall with feet hip-width apart. Engage your core.

Take a big step forward with right leg. Start to shift your weight forward so heel hits the floor first.

Lower your body until right thigh is parallel to the floor and right shin is vertical. It’s OK if your knee shifts forward a little as long as it doesn’t go past right toe. If mobility allows, lightly tap left knee to the floor while keeping weight in right heel.

Press into right heel to drive back up to starting position.

Repeat on the other side.

Bent-over row

Walk to the bar. Stand with your mid-foot under the bar. Don’t touch it with your shins.

Grab the bar. Use a medium grip width.

Unlock your knees. Keep your hips higher than on the deadlift.

Lift your chest. Straighten your back.

Row. Take a big breath, hold it and pull the bar against your lower chest.

Standard push-up

Back straight, hips not lifted or sagging.

Keep your toes and heels together.

Hands at chest level, wider than shoulder width apart.

Eyes looking at the ground three feet in front of your head.

As you bend your elbows and lower toward the ground, your elbows should be at about a 45-degree angle to your body.

Go down until your chest is one inch off the ground.

Beginner push-up rhythm – down SLOW, up FAST.

Bench press

Lie on the bench with your eyes under the bar.

Grab the bar with a medium grip-width (thumbs around the bar!).

Unrack the bar by straightening your arms.

Lower the bar to your mid-chest.

Press the bar back up until your arms are straight.

Do you have a story to share? We want to hear from you.

These high-end NYC hotels not changing sheets, wiping down surfaces

Some high-end Manhattan hotels aren’t thoroughly cleaning rooms between guests amid the coronavirus pandemic, a new report found.

Three different Midtown hotels didn’t even bother to change pillowcases or wipe down commonly used surfaces, according to an investigation by Inside Edition set to air Monday night.

Producers with the TV program booked rooms at each of the hotels and used a washable spray to apply an Inside Edition logo — only visible under UV light — to the pillows, bed sheets and bath towels.

They also doused commonly touched surfaces, like the TV remote, thermostat and desk with a special washable gel.

The next day, using a new reservation under a different name, they checked-in to the same room to see if the linens had been changed and surfaces wiped down.

At the Hyatt Place Times Square, the logo was still visible on the bedsheets and pillowcase under UV light — indicating they hadn’t been replaced, the report found.

While the desk had been wiped down and the towel replaced, the gel was visible on the remote control when placed under UV light.

A few blocks away at the Hampton Inn Times Square Central, the sheets and a pillowcase weren’t changed either and neither the remote control nor thermostat were wiped down, according to the report.

At the Trump International Hotel overlooking Central Park, the sheets and towels were changed. But the pillowcase wasn’t and the desk and the remote control weren’t wiped down.

A Hyatt spokesperson told the program they were “deeply concerned” about the situation.

“We are working with the hotel’s owner to ensure the hotel is implementing proper cleaning protocols that are consistent with Hyatt’s commitment to cleanliness for the safety and wellbeing of our guests,” the statement said.

A spokesperson for Hampton Inn said it had conducted an investigation of their own and found that “our housekeeping team relied on a visual inspection of the room’s cleanliness to determine which areas received attention, deviating from our protocols.”

“This is a violation of our standards to thoroughly clean each room,” the statement said. “Both our housekeeping team and management apologize for this mistake and we are retraining our team members to reinforce our procedures.”

A rep for the Trump International Hotel didn’t return the program’s request for comment.

Brandy and Aaliyah: Were These Two Singers Friends?

Aaliyah and Brandy were undeniably the ultimate R&B princesses of the 1990s. Both singers rose to fame in their early teens and became two of the greatest pop stars of the early aughties.

With both women dominating the music industry and being two of the best-selling female artists of that time, we wonder: were Aaliyah and Brandy friends?

Aaliyah’s career took off in the early ’90s

Aaliyah first showcased her musical abilities at the age of 10 when she appeared on the talent show Star Search in 1989. Around that time, she was also developing her skills as a singer by performing on stage with her aunt Glady Knight, who was married to record producer and manager Barry Hankerson.

Since he was well aware of his niece’s talent, Hankerson signed Aaliyah to his record label, Blackground Records, when she was just 12-years-old.

In 1994, Aaliyah released her debut album Age Ain’t Nothin but a Number, which landed in the No. 24 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 74,000 copies in its first week.

The album produced two hit singles, including “Back & Forth” and “At Your Best (You Are Love).” Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Two years later, the songstress released her second studio album, One in a Million, after signing with Atlantic Records. The title track off the album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard 200, selling 3 million copies in the United States and over eight million copies worldwide.

After that, Aaliyah’s career was on an upward climb, and her music success soon crossed over into the film industry.

In 1999, the songstress landed her first movie role in the action film Romeo Must Die. In addition to her character, Aaliyah also served as the executive producer of the film’s soundtrack, where she contributed four songs.

Her track “Try Again” was released as a single from the soundtrack and topped the Billboard Hot 100. The song even earned Aaliyah a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocalist at the Grammy Awards and won her two MTV Video Music Awards for the Best Female Video and Best Video from a Film.

Sadly, the singer died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, at the age of 22 after filming what was to be her final music video for her song “Rock the Boat.”

Brandy’s career launched just after Aaliyah’s

Like Aaliyah, Brandy’s career took off when she was a teenager after she released her multi-platinum self-titled debut album at the age of 14 in 1994.

Brandy went on to sell over six million copies worldwide and produced three top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “I Wanna Be Down,” “Baby,” and “Brokenhearted.”

After that, Brandy’s career continued to soar, and in 1996, she landed her very own television sitcom, Moesha, which catapulted her popularity to new heights.

The singer played the title character Moesha, a young teen dealing with growing pains while living in Los Angeles. The show aired for six seasons and even earned Brandy an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Youth Actor/Actress.

During the show’s peak, Brandy released her second studio album, Never Say Never, which became her highest-selling and highest-charting album of her career.

She went on to release four more studio albums throughout the years, all of which were successful. But Brandy’s maintained a successful career thanks to her acting chops, branding, and merchandise. She’s even made history by becoming the first black singer to play Cinderella in a film.

Were Brandy and Aaliyah friends?

Though it was previously rumored that Brandy and Aaliyah feuded with each other back in the day, the “Sittin Up In My Room” songstress set the record straight on their relationship while interviewing with Billboard’s The Juice in 2011.

During their discussion, Brandy spent time talking about her dear friendship with Aaliyah, who she met when she was only 15-years-old.

“She came out before Monica and I did, she was our inspiration. At the time, record companies did not believe in kid acts and it was just inspiring to see someone that was winning and winning being themselves,” Brandy said. “When I met her I embraced her, I was so happy to meet her. I told her how much I loved her. She said the same thing about me and we connected. It was a great moment I’ll never forget.”

Despite being side by side on the Billboard charts, Brandy and Aaliyah established a solid friendship that continued until the singer’s unprecedented death in 2001.

“There was a moment when I won at, I think, [Soul Train] Lady of Soul [Music Awards],’ Brandy recalled. “She sent me flowers saying how proud she was and ‘congratulations.’ I just thought that was so angelic and sweet of her…Other artists supporting another artist when everybody’s trying to put you against each other, which was very special. I was like ‘whoa, that’s really big of her.’”

Though Aaliyah was gone too soon, her legacy continues on in the music industry, which has served an inspiration to many female artists, including Brandy.

“She will forever be an inspiration to me,” the singer added. “I love her and want to send love and positive energy out to her family and fans that love her.”
