The Crown season 4: First look at Charles and Diana's romance in new trailer

Prince Charles and Diana’s romance and wedding takes centre stage in a new teaser trailer of The Crown season 4.

In a series of dramatic cuts, the pair – played by Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin – are seen in the run up to their wedding day, falling in love with each other.

Diana beams as she’s greeted by crowds of people, and dances around the palace as she romances the young prince.

However, the trailer takes a dark turn with arguments between the soon-to-be newlyweds, rows erupting between Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and Prince Phillip (Tobias Menzies), and with Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham-Carter) battling with her health.

Over the teaser, a vicar is heard saying a declaration as he marries them.

He says: ‘Here is the stuff of which fairytales are made. A prince and princess on their wedding day, but fairy tales usually end at this point with the simple phrase “they lived happily ever after”.

‘As husband and wife live out their vows, loving and cherishing one another, sharing life’s splendors and miseries, achievements and setbacks, they will be transformed in the process.

‘Our faith sees the wedding day, not as the place of arrival, but the place where the adventure really begins.’

The minute-long clip ends with Diana in her now-iconic wedding dress as she prepares to greet those waiting for her outside the palace, and Charles looking solemnly into the camera.

The new series will follow the Royals from the late 1970s through to 1990, with the wedding happening in July 1981.

The pair separated in 1992, with Diana later commenting that there were ‘three people’ in their marriage – referring to Charles’s long-held relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Their divorce was finalised in 1996.

Charles and Camilla would go on to marry in 2005, seven years after Diana died in a car crash in August 1997.

The Crown season 4 drops November 15 on Netflix.
